I wish I could say that this is my most favorite time of the year. It’s not. It used to be. In my old life, before Eric, summers were easy going. The pool was visited often. Many a drink were had on friends porches, late into the evening. While summers are a bit different now, there is one thing I absolutely love. I love the day that we sit down to a meal this is almost 100% derived from the farm. The first time this happens is usually in mid June. We usually take a moment and realize what we have done, thank the land for what it has provided and spend the next 10 minutes in silent bliss.

We thought we would share our most recent meal that was like this with you. It happened Monday night.

Granted there are a number of purchased items with the meal, pasta, cheese and PBR (recently dubbed “papa water” by Milo), the majority of it is from the farm.

Pasta with eggplant, green and yellow beans, and bread. The bread we bake two to three times a week.


This week at the market we will have eggs (small, medium, large, x-large), chicken, tomatoes (that look beautiful!), broccoli (surprise to us too), onions, garlic, potatoes, beans, okra, squash, green chiles, eggplant, and basil.  We finally got rain this week which has allowed some seeds to germinate for the fall.  Hopefully we will be having some exciting things in the garden before winter hits!

    So great! Thank you for sharing. I like Papa water too and am going to get you guys to start making your own pasta. It’s pretty easy and very therapeutic (esp with PBR).

    Greta, we were just talking that we need to get a pasta attachment. I’m going to do that this weekend. And of course, we would love you to come over and make some with us! I’ll make sure we have some papa water!

    Love your blog, Eve. Fun getting a peek into life on the farm. I’m jealous of your bread baking skillz. Also, I think this is the weekend that we will prepare/freeze our basil…

    Good job, Berit! This is the last week for basil around here. We may do a bit more. We will likely move on to canning tomatoes. I hope you are feeling well, I love reading your blog! Hopefully we will be in the Twin Cities some time again soon and can meet Roy! Have a great weekend.
